Summary
Dr. Gray visited Mrs. Berwick, Adam’s mother, in Chapter 27. He explained that it was time to tell Adam her secret. When Adam gave blood to his dying father decades prior, Dr. Gray revealed that Adam was not Mr. Berwick’s biological son. Much later, Mrs. Berwick divulged the truth of an affair with James Knight to Dr. Gray. Now, at the crossroads of the fate of the Knight estate, Dr. Gray insisted that Adam deserved to know the truth as the closest surviving male heir to James Knight. His entreaties impacted Mrs. Berwick, and Adam visited Dr. Gray the next day.
