Summary

In Chapter 53, it is dark when Hugh wakes Hannah. He tells her he has made an appointment for her to talk to the police. He insists on driving her there instead of taking the bus. Hannah feels as if she is hungover and has a strange taste in her mouth.

In the car, Hannah dozes and wakes, believing they have driven longer than they should have to reach the police department. When Hannah notices they have left town, Hugh claims he put the address in his navigation system incorrectly. When Hannah looks at his navigation system, she sees it is turned off.

Hannah thinks of the chemical taste in her mouth and realizes Hugh has drugged her. She slowly realizes they are not going to the police because Hugh killed April when Hannah left him alone with her to get help. She had...
