Summary

In Chapter 8, Wednesday is Hannah’s day off, but she cannot bring herself to start putting together baby furniture because she believes the act would be tempting fate.

Hannah leaves the house after she turns on the television to hear the reporter talking about Neville’s death. As she walks in the park, her mother calls to check on her. The call is dropped. Hannah answers her phone without thinking when it rings again. The caller is a reporter; Hannah hangs up on him.
