Summary
In Chapter 31, the fig tree describes how butterflies migrate to Cyprus. He tells of one butterfly who flew over a graveyard. There was a grave dedicated to Yusuf Yirogos, who lived only one year.
Dr. Norman returns Kostas’ call in Chapter 32 but says he cannot tell him anything. Defne finally agrees to do so. She says that she ended up giving Yusuf Yiorgos up for adoption. Before that, Dr. Norman had agreed to perform an abortion on her at The Happy Fig. While there, a group of young men arrived, looking for trouble.
The fig tree recalls a mosquito he met in Chapter 33. The mosquito told him about malaria in Cyprus. She said she bit a baby named Yusuf Yiorgos several times.
In Chapter 34, Defne explains that the young men came to beat Yusuf and Yiorgos up. She says they only fought...
