Summary

In Chapter 42, Meryem suggests to Ada that they visit an exorcist. She thinks Ada is possessed by a djinn. Ada agrees to go on the condition that Meryem explain how her parents got back together. Meryem says Kostas returned to Nicosia years after his exile. Defne had never stopped loving him.

Chapter 42 flashes back to Cyprus during the early 2000s. Kostas arrives by ferry. He checks in at Hotel Afrodit. Kostas knows that Defne is an archaeologist. She is single. Kostas plans on meeting with their mutual friend David.

In Chapter 43, Kostas meets David at a bookstore. David informs Kostas that he and Defne work for the Committee on Missing Persons. He brings Kostas to the woods to meet his colleagues. Defne jumps down from the tree to greet Kostas. They discuss her work. Kostas watches Defne and David share a cigarette...
