Freckles
Addie’s seven freckles are a symbol of her uniqueness. They are the first thing people notice about her and resemble a constellation. Addie’s freckles inspire artwork, helping her leave a legacy.
Leather jacket
Addie’s leather jacket represents her life with Luc. The narrator describes, “It’s soft, made of black leather and worn practically to silk, the kind of thing people pay a fortune for these days and call it vintage” (21). Addie is fond of the jacket Luc bought her, despite how their relationship ended. It is one of the few possessions she manages to hold onto.
Storms
Storms represent Henry’s depression. Henry himself refers to his depressive episodes as storms, a concept that helps him make sense of his mental illness. Referring to his depression as storms helps remind Henry that everything passes, and that he will be alright.
