Summary
In the chapter “The Hope. A Marauding Army.”, The Medusa left the cove and Ada and Evered set to their summer ritual of fishing and drying their catch. They recounted the crew and John Warren’s stories to one another “as if they had been away on separate trips” (241). When The Hope set anchor off of the cove for the season, the Beadle brought word that Mary Orman was dead.
One morning, when Evered was out on the water amidst the shoals, a storm swept into the cove. He desperately tried to row the small vessel to safety. Ada watched from the cove, convinced that Evered’s death was imminent. When he made it to shore, Ada hailed him to come into the tilt. In front of the fire, the siblings stripped off...
