Summary
Scene One begins in the middle of a confrontation between Henry and Eric over Toby’s appearance at the wedding. Henry reacts angrily when Eric admits to inviting Toby to the wedding, but does not believe him when he says that he did not know Toby was going to bring Leo. Henry also admits, in response to Eric’s insistent questioning, that he had had sex with Leo, even while he (Henry) and Eric were together. Eric demands to know why Henry would not have sex with him, whether Henry loves him, and whether Henry loved Walter. This prompts a sequence in which Henry’s memories are once again enacted by the members of the Chorus who enacted the younger Walter and Henry earlier in the play – portraying the day they met, the day they had sex for...
