Cupcakes
Libby’s cupcakes are symbols of love, apology, and the reaction to grief-related stress. When Avery arrives home to find Libby is baking cupcakes, she knows something is wrong because her sister bakes as a way to apologize. In this case, Libby is apologizing for allowing Drake to move back in. Later, when Drake begins calling and texting Libby’s phone in an attempt to talk to her, Libby starts baking again. Nash tells Avery that Libby started baking as soon as Drake started calling, proving that the baking is a stress-related response to Drake as well as the grief and guilt she feels for breaking off the relationship. Libby also bakes to demonstrate her love. At one point when Libby thinks that Avery does not look like herself, she offers to bake something to make her feel better.
