Chapter 6, The Coast of Africa Summary
The Coast of Africa. Boredom quickly sets in on the ship as the days and nights seem to run into one another. Desiderio and Lafleur find some relief in joining in the nightly entertainment with the ship's crew, but the Count isolates himself and does not participate. Then one day the captain of the ship hears on the radio that Desiderio and the Count are wanted for two separate murders, so the crew takes them into custody and chains them up in the bottom of the ship. This lasts for several days as the men fight over the meager rations they are allowed by the crew. A short time later, the ship is boarded by Asian pirates who behead the entire crew.
