Sal's Name, Salvador
Sal's name means "savior." His mother named him Sal because he saved her when he gave her life a purpose. In her letter to him, his mother writes that he was her salvation. He continues to give purpose to other people's lives including his father's, Mima's, Sam's, and Fito's.
The Title, The Inexplicable Logic of My Life
The title of the novel, The Inexplicable Logic of My Life, represents the lesson Sal learns. He thinks that life is supposed to be logical. When things happen in his life that do not make sense, he gets upset. However, he comes to realize that bad things happen and control and perfection are not realities. At the same time, good things happen and one survives and enjoys life anyway.. Once he realizes this, he is able to find his identity and become Salvador instead of Sally.
