Summary

Part Five begins with a quote from Sal saying that life is not like a paved highway which has signs to show you the way. In the chapter titled "Sam. Learning to Talk. Me.," Sal talks to Sam after school about the Eddie and the slap. At the end of the conversation he concludes that they were not broken.

Everyone is at Mima's house in the chapter titled "Thanksgiving." Mima meets Fito. Sal has a sore throat. When he goes to his father's car to get cough drops, he overhears his aunt and uncle talking about who is going to miss Mima the most. They decide it will be Sal. Sal's uncle tells him he is a good kid. The family prepares the food. When Vincent's cell phone rings, Sal knows that it is Marcos. Sal...
