Will Kendall
Will Kendall is the narrator of the novel and one of the three central characters. From a poor background, Will transferred to the elite Edwards College after losing his faith in Christianity and dropping out of Bible College. The central issue that the novel engages with is Will’s credibility as a narrator, which is explored through his own admissions of having a hazy memory and incomplete understanding of the events at the heart of the novel, as well as brief moments when the outside perspective of a character other than Will penetrates his narration and gives the reader brief glimpses of alternative possibilities and perceptions of the events of the novel.
