Summary
In Chapter 8, “Red Spot” (106), Caroline and Samuel sat in on Sophia's first art class with the girls. She felt unnerved by Eliza. Sophia instructed the girls to split into pairs and begin drawing each other. As Livia drew Eliza, she suddenly noticed a red spot on her eye. Eliza began to panic about the red spot, and Samuel insisted it was nothing serious and tried to reestablish calm. Sophia suggested calling a doctor, but Samuel said this was not necessary. Later, Caroline followed David into his bedroom and asked him why he never told her about Sophia. He made excuses, and she told him to ensure Sophia did not disagree with her father in front of the students again.
