Chapters 9-17 Summary
Millburn, New Jersey, June 9, 2:45 p.m. Glinn parks outside a residential neighborhood in New Jersey and watches as Sally Britton leaves from her appointed visit with her daughter. Glinn invites Britton into his car and informs her that he would like to hire her to captain an oil tanker for him. Glinn tells Britton that he knows about her past, how she cannot be hired because of a stint in rehab for alcoholism, but that this past does not matter to him. Glinn explains that she can hire her own crew, that she will be paid a large bonus, and that piloting his ship will help her regain her reputation and perhaps standing in the custody fight over her child. Britton agrees.
