Summary
In Chapter 22, in their therapy session, Cornelia has Nora and Hayden exercise. Cornelia connects Hayden to a "electric muscle stimulation" device (209). Nora tries not to turn the session into a competition. During their discussion, Hayden seems to respond to Nora in a different manner. Then, when Cornelia asks why Hayden resents Nora, he says because of "The accident" (215).
In Chapter 23, Hayden helps around the house. Nora wonders if he "is acting strangely because he feels badly for bringing up the accident" (217). Later, Nora feels relieved to spend time with Cornelia, Penny, and Alexis. When Nora mentions Sylvia Lamb, the others explain that she was simply a bad fit for their community. Meanwhile, Nora notices how helpful Max is with his child.
