Summary

In Chapter 7, Nora visits the burned house. After reading "the police and insurance reports," she wants to investigate further (69). The house is covered in graffiti. Studying its interior, she cannot understand why Richard did not "make a run for it" when the fire started (71). Then Nora encounters Alexis Foster-Ross, "head of the HOA" at Dynasty Ranch (72). Suddenly she feels sick. She tells Alexis she is pregnant. Alexis rushes her to her home so she can rest. They talk about their jobs, their pasts, and the fire. Alexis's husband, Max, enters. Nora recognizes him as the man who changed her tire. When she shows signs of recognition, he signals for her to stay quiet. Afterwards, Nora and Alexis continue talking about the fire. Alexis explains the eerie glow she saw when she got home (78). Before leaving, Alexis offers to answer any questions Nora might...
