Summary
In Chapter Eight, Lucy has made an appointment for Tess and Liam to visit St. Angela’s. Tess knows it is because her mother is feeling badly for her and the way she has been treated. She wants to do something to help. Cecilia, who had attended Sister Ursula’s funeral at the nearby church, sees them and walks over. Tess wants to run, but her mother says it is too late. Tess is overwhelmed and drained by Cecilia’s outgoing personality. Cecilia invites them to Polly’s pirate party, telling Liam they will be in the same class together. Cecilia mentions Rachel, and Lucy asks how the woman is doing. After Cecilia leaves, Lucy tells Tess that it was Rachel’s daughter who was found with the rosary beads.
Rachel knows Tess and Lucy are thinking about Janie when they enroll Liam...
