Summary
Chapter 19 is titled Katie. Miranda makes it clear to Katie that she feels Samira can talk about nothing except her baby. She says it is “insensitive” because she and Julien have been unable to become pregnant. It is 2:30 in the morning and Katie wants to leave, but does not want to be labeled the “buzzkill.” Miranda produces pills, saying they are “after-dinner mints” (107). Katie immediately knows she cannot take one because she hates being out of control, as she had been during a party during a holiday years earlier. Bo is a recovering addict, so he and Nick both abstain. Samira is nursing so she does as well, meaning Katie is not alone. Everyone begins to dance until Katie and Julien are the only ones still seated. Miranda orders Julien to dance with Katie.
