Summary
The Day After: The following day, Kanai, Horen, and Moyna, are two-thirds of the way to Garjontola when they see Fokir’s boat. As they approach they see that Piya is the only person on board and Moyna breaks her marital bangles against her head before collapsing. Kanai helps Piya onto the Megha and she tells him that Fokir was crushed by an uprooted tree stump in the last hour of the storm and that he had whispered Moyna and Tutul’s names as he was dying. They continue to Garjontola to recover Fokir’s body and then return to Lusibari where he is cremated later that night. Piya, along with some other mourners, stays with Moyna and Tutul as support.
