Summary
Listening: Piya is awoken by the same sound that Kanai heard and Fokir, who is watching Garjontola, points towards the shore. They both sit in silence as the Orcaella dolphins circle around the boat. Fokir begins to hum and, when Piya asks him to sing again, he does so quietly. “The melody was very different from that of the day before, alternately lively and pensive” (157). The song matches Piya’s mood and, feeling happy and content, she returns to her sleeping mat, wondering what Fokir’s life has been like up till this point.
