Summary
Wurche begs her father and husband to allow her a role in governance, but they want her to focus on motherhood. She warns Etuto that the treaties with the British and Germans are not beneficial to Salaga. She visits her mentor Jaji and they look to Koran for insight into the possibility of divorce. She visits Maigida’s hut. He tells her Moro has not been by for seven days, and he is waiting for him to return to pick up the girl her purchased. Wurche impulsively tells Maigida she will buy her instead. The girl tells Wurche, her new mistress, that her name is Aminah.
