Summary
Aimee continues to refer to her parents being in “a deep hole” (134), becoming increasingly emotional as she learns that her parents have no savings, erupting in anger at Brigid for not taking more responsibility for her life. Erik tries to defend Brigid as Deirdre starts to come downstairs. Brigid, meanwhile, speaks of worrying about her parents. “You’re not sleeping,” she says to Erik, “and mom’s still eating her feelings” (135). Aimee sees Deirdre and warns Brigid, who tries to apologize. Deirdre tells Brigid to talk to Erik, Brigid shouts that she thinks there’s something wrong with everyone in the family, Aimee tries to get Brigid to calm down, Erik tries to get everyone to come talk to him, Momo mutters (“nevery blacken where you come back …”) (136) and suddenly there are thuds from upstairs.
