Summary

Harry is currently serving three months in jail for possessing marijuana when the housing authority comes to see Bat. His friends come to the apartment to demand the money they had given him back. Bat does not have the money and spins a tale about how he invested the money. His friends are irate as they did not give permission for him to do anything with the money other than save it.

Bat attempts to spin Harry’s story as well to explain why his friends should not be angry that he has seemingly mismanaged their money. He tells them that Harry would want them all to maintain their trust in each other and not to treat him “as if I is a criminal or something, when all I do is invest the money to make more” (105). Bat blames the coming summer...
