The Attic Key

The attic key symbolizes how Millie is key to freeing Nina from Andrew’s control. Millie asks for a key to the attic and Nina gives it to her. Since the attic door locks from the outside, the key is not able to help Millie escape. However, it shows that Millie is making an effort to gain control over her situation.

The Attic

The attic symbolizes prison. Millie feels claustrophobic in the attic, but she is able to view the attic as something preferential over living out of her car. When Millie finds herself locked in the attic, she is determined to escape the room because she refuses to be Andrew’s prisoner.
