Section 12: Chapters 28, 29 & 30 Summary

In Chapter 28: The Plankton Factory, Matt is assigned to making pills with the younger boys in the morning, and though he is given only a half-portion of breakfast, the older boys share with him so that he receives a full portion. Around midmorning, Raul summons Matt, Chacho and Fidelito to go to San Luis, giving them plastic strips to weave into sandals on the hovercraft. Fidelito vomits on the hovercraft, but the smell is even worse when they land. Carlos, the head Keeper, gives them a tour of the factory and explains the process of harvesting plankton. After lunch, Matt, Chacho and Fidelito are put to work tending the brine shrimp tanks. Fidelito tells Matt and Chacho about living on the seashore of the Yucatan with his grandmother until a hurricane destroyed their home, and Matt is saved from answering questions...
