Summary
In Chapter 1, an unknown assailant kills Maurizio Gucci as he enters his office building. Guiseppe Onorato, a fifty-one year old retired soldier who relocated to Milan from the south of Italy and is now a doorman at the Via Palestro, witnesses the shooting. He is wounded by the gunman. Onorato tells the police that the killer was a man.
In Chapter 2, the authorities arrive and begin their investigation. The bullet wound indicates that a professional hit man killed Maurizio. However, they are perplexed because the killer spared the lives of two witnesses. The investigators decide that learning more about Maurizio Gucci’s life is critical to solving the case because they do not know much about him.
