Summary

Chapter Twelve takes place in Penang in 1921 and is told from the perspective of Willie. Gerald complained about Willie having to return to England. Gerald was unable to return to England due to outstanding prosecutions against him related to his homosexuality. He blamed the situation on Willie’s wife Syrie and her powerful connections. Willie, Gerald, Robert and Lesley visited a local cemetery together to look at the graves of prominent residents of Penang.

Chapter Thirteen takes place in Penang in 1910 and is told from the perspective of Lesley. Sun Yat Sen gave a talk at Arthur’s house to help promote his cause amongst the locals.
