Summary
In “Las Mañanitas,” Big Angel and Little Angel talk about Don Antonio’s lack of culinary skills. Lalo returns home and begins to weep and apologize. The family sings Big Angel a happy birthday. At night, while everyone else is out of the room, Big Angel tries to reach his pills himself, which are on top of the dresser. He falls, smacking his head against the dresser and shattering his kneecaps. He believes he will die there. Already on his knees he begins to pray and confess.
Lalo eventually finds him there. Outside the house, Yndio is watching. He has gotten a new tattoo that says “Prodigal.” He reflects that he wants to forgive his father and his father to forgive him. Big Angel asks Little Angel to take over his patriarchal duties but...
