Summary

In Chapter 28, Tom began avoiding Annie after they kissed because he thought that was for the best. He had told Annie he intended to have Grace riding Pilgrim before everyone left the ranch. They arranged it as a surprise for Robert when he visited.

On the day that Tom rode Pilgrim, Tom considered how Pilgrim had transformed. He could feel a tremor of fear in Pilgrim’s muscles though and knew Grace could only ride him if he did not sense fear in her.

In Chapter 29, that night at the ranch, Grace slipped on the porch and fell, cracking the sleeve of her prosthetic. She did not tell anyone because she wanted so badly to ride Pilgrim the next day. Grace tried to patch the sleeve together with Band-aids.
