Summary
In Chapter 6, as Annie researched horse psychiatrists hoping to find an answer for Pilgrim, she learned about horse whisperers, men with the ability to sense and soothe a horse’s fears. Annie read that men like this were capable of taming even the most depraved horse.
While Annie was watching Grace improve physically, she sensed there was something inside her that was dying. She also believed Pilgrim was in some way connected to Grace’s despair. Even though she knew it would be kinder to euthanize Pilgrim, she could not bring herself to agree to that. Liz provided Annie with the number of a man who might be able to help Pilgrim.
In Chapter 7, Tom Booker was working his last clinic of the season with plans to take the spring and summer off.
