Summary

Chapter Ten begins in Jaipur on March 15th, 1956. Business is booming and Lakshmi, Radha, and Malik barely have time to talk. Lakshmi used Samir’s loan to pay off Narayan and hire another builder. She overhears Malik talking to Radha about seeing her somewhere, but neither of them tells Lakshmi. She visits Latika once a week to help her relax as she has become more involved in her school. She is invited to watch Radha learn the foxtrot, but declines. She visits Kanta instead when Radha suddenly arrives with a black eye. She says Sheela elbowed her after the dance and says she does not fit in. Kanta decides they are going to get Radha new dresses and a haircut. Lakshmi feels Kanta always knows what to say to Radha.
