Capitol Hill
Capitol Hill and the Capitol building are described in great detail and serve as the setting for many scenes. As a congressman, Charlie works in the building. This is where several people open fire on members of Congress, killing one of Charlie's friends and wounding several others. This is also where Charlie and some others gather information that leads them to reveal the truth about the chemical factories.
In Chapter 27, Charlie and Isaiah Street follow Leopold to Capitol Hill to rescue Margaret. As happens in many other passages, the author provides a description of this part of the building – the Rotunda. It is typically flooded by light “through the dome windows a hundred and eighty feet above them” (288). He also notes the shapes of a dozen statues in the room.
