Summary
Chapter 13 takes place three days later, March 4, on Capitol Hill. It is the day before Charlie has the wreck. Charlie is “appalled” that the wheels of Congress are continuing “as if there hadn't been a mass shooting in the House Chamber just three days ago” (122). Six congressmen are still in the hospital and Mac is in a coma. Charlie encounters LaMontagne who asks about the file. Charlie says he lost it during the shooting. LaMontagne is angry that Charlie had not passed it on before then but Charlie counters, saying, “You do know six congressmen got shot?” (123). Street arrives and LaMontagne leaves. Charlie tells Street he had the file three weeks before the shooting and does not know why he had held onto it. Street says “Yes, you do” and Charlie agrees.
