Summary
Book Three spans from 1994 to 2015. Though he is not in time to inform Alice of the circumstances of her beloved brother's death, Cyril does return to Ireland with his son, Ignac, in “Chapter 8: 1994: Fathers and Sons.” Alice eventually agrees to introduce Cyril to his biological son, Liam, provided Cyril comes out to him. Cyril keeps his word, as he vowed never to deceive anyone regarding his sexuality when he moved to Amsterdam. However, though Liam treats Cyril less coldly after Liam's second child, Julian, is born, he is never as close to Cyril as he was to his adored uncle.
Cyril reconnects with other people from his youth as well, most notably his adoptive father, Charles Avery. Charles is once again in jail for tax evasion, though he is released early when he is diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Confused, Charles asks...
