Summary

In Chapter 39, after arriving in True North, Avery could not help but think that the life of a billionaire was never meant for her.

In Chapter 40, Avery asked to stay in the bedroom that had once belonged to Skye. The stairway to the upstairs was lined with family photos. Avery tried to find a resemblance between herself and Toby.

Upstairs, Avery and Max searched for something hidden in Skye’s room. Thea and Rebecca, who were in Zara’s room next door, found a loose panel in the floorboard. There was a bottle with a slip of paper inside hidden there. The message was written in a woman’s writing: “You knew, and you did it anyway. I will never forgive you for this” (159). They believed the note referred to something that had happened to ruin the relationship between Zara and Skye.
