Summary

In Chapter 12, the cipher revealed a poem suggesting Toby had written his secrets on the walls of his room. They went in search of a black light to see if they could find anything written on the walls.

In Chapter 13, the light displayed that Toby had written his diary from the time he was young on the walls of his room. Toby had been a happy, excitable child. A few months after his sixteenth birthday, however, there was an entry that simply indicated someone had lied to him. They learned later that Toby had been adopted. No one knew about the adoption. His mother had even faked a pregnancy to make everyone believe Toby was really her son.

Avery was shocked when she saw Toby’s handwriting because it was the same handwriting as the signature on her birth certificate.
