Summary
In Chapter 1, Jameson Hawthorne and Avery Kylie Grambs are alone in the tunnels of Hawthorne House. Jameson had asked Avery to tell him again about the first time she played chess in the park with the homeless man they believed was Jameson’s uncle, Toby. It had only been a month since Avery had been named the sole inheritor of the property of Tobias Hawthorne, Jameson’s grandfather, even though she had no apparent connection to the family. They believed it was a possibility that she was the “Heiress” (3) of the estate because she knew Toby.
