Mirrors
There are mirrors all throughout the top floor of Bexley And Gamin. They are representative of the relationship between Joshua and Lucy, as the two are opposites to one another that are more similar than they realize. Over the course of the novel, they become more aware of their similarities and the bonds between them.
Strawberries
In the novel, strawberries are a symbol of home, love, and comfort. Lucy grew up on a strawberry field, and she has many good memories of her childhood and her life with her family there. The strawberry field contrasts with the sterility, discomfort, and rigid order she often experiences in the office.
