Summary

In Chapter 23, Lucy thinks that Josh has a strained relationship with his family because he dropped out of medical school. When everyone sits down to dinner, Josh’s father makes a speech in which he commends Patrick for making him proud by graduating medical school, and then commends Mindy for choosing “an outstanding Templeman to marry” (286). Lucy takes Josh aside and asks him what all the tension is about, and he promises to tell her after he goes to the bathroom. Lucy runs into Mindy, who tells her she dated Josh for a year before breaking things off with him and dating Patrick. Lucy is devastated, and when the bouquet is thrown at her, she runs outside crying.
