Summary
Kenya is dropped off at Seven's grandma's house. Everyone is angry about the verdict. Starr, Chris, DeVante, and Seven go to a protest that is starting up on the street where Khalil was killed. People are destroying police cars and setting fire to businesses. The kids are worried about Maverick's store. Police in riot gear order the protesters to disperse.
In chapter 24, the kids run out of gas and abandon the car. They find Ms. Ofrah from Just us for Justice on the hood of a police car shouting into a megaphone. Protesters are brandishing hairbrushes like the one Officer Cruise mistook for a gun. Ms. Ofrah gives the megaphone to Starr, and she shouts at the police that they are racist and that Khalil's life mattered. When a can of tear gas drops nearby, she picks it up and throws it back...
