Summary
Part 2 begins five weeks after the shooting. Starr does a television interview with a journalist named Diane Carey. She defends Khalil and disparages the idea that he could be responsible for his own death because he was a drug dealer. She refers to his mother's debt to King. Though she does not mention him by name, it is still a form of snitching, called “dry snitching” [288]. Anyone who heard her comments would know who she was talking about.
In Chapter 17, Starr goes to the prom. Hailey is not speaking to her or Maya, and Chris is acting distant. Finally he admits he knows she is the witness to Khalil's death and he is hurt she did not tell him. She breaks down and tells him about Natasha's death, and how she grew up poor, and how she did not want him to know...
