Chapter 7, Arrests Summary and Analysis
In Chapter Seven, Xaviera details several times when she is arrested for prostitution. She states that though there are ways to avoid being caught by the law as a prostitute, arrest is practically inevitable, because any number of people can turn you in for any number of reasons. First she recalls the story of an incident in which she is reported by a man she had banned from her brothel. The police investigate her finances and report that she is the biggest madam operating in New York at the time. Her lawyer gets the charge reduced and she is ordered to pay a fine.
