Chapter 6, Shakedown Summary and Analysis
While Xaviera is still working at the United Nations mission, she receives a letter from blackmailers involved with the man who stole pictures of her and Carl from her previous apartment. The letter also contains a Polaroid of the pictures. She calls the number listed in the letter and the man she speaks to demands $5000 in exchange for not revealing her illegal activities to her employers. He tells Xaviera that he expects this payment in 48 hours and will call her at 7:00 PM on Wednesday. Unable to raise the money from friends or clients, Xaviera calls Murray the Mover out of desperation. He tells her to cancel all her dates before Wednesday and says he will come over that night to help her. When the blackmailers call, Xaviera tells them Murray is her uncle and that he will be representing...
