Summary

Chapter 30 takes place in March of 2020. A respected gymnast calls for an investigation into USA Gymnastics. While that was dramatic, “a virus breached out cells and rewrote our entire sense of self” (319). COVID-19 forces USA Gymnastics to cancel events while promising that the Olympic Trials would take place as scheduled. Lou pledges he will keep Championship Gym open. Joe remained at school though classes changed to online. When the situation becomes more insecure, Bob insists Joe come home. Lou takes Sera's temperature every day. Officials begin to talk about training spreading the virus and consider postponing the Olympics. Sera begins to realize that her dream of becoming an Olympian is not as important as it once seemed. One morning, Lou arrives with equipment in a U-Haul. Sera notices that he is wearing rubber gloves - a symbol of the fear of spreading the...
