Summary
Chapter 3 changes perspective to Charlene Wheeler. Charlene had married young and was spending a lot of time at home with her young twins. She was so bored that she had begun making outfits for a concrete goose on the front lawn. One day, she picked Joe and Sera up from the YMCA where Joe was playing peewee basketball and Sera was in gymnastics. The gymnastics instructor told Charlene that Sera had a natural ability and could benefit from a professional instructor. She said Sera could become an elite gymnast. When she mentioned the Junior Olympics, Charlene was suddenly more interested. Charlene began making the drive to Indianapolis for Sera to train with Jennifer. They increased practice time to four days a week. Charlene found herself learning everything about gymnastics and managing Sera's burgeoning career.
