Summary

In Chapter 8, Malcolm thought about feeling lucky as a child. When he found two twenty-dollar bills on the ground, he bought the entire neighborhood ice cream. Later, on a family vacation, a passing boat saved him from the ocean when he swam out too far. At the bar, Malcolm picked up the phone and a police officer asked if they could stop by. When the officers arrived at the Half Moon, they poked around the property and Malcolm allowed them to search the upstairs space, that had been empty for years. Upstairs, “in the corner of the room closest to the door they’d entered through was a duffel bag, and next to it, a short stack of clothes, neatly folded” (187).
