Summary

In the prologue, Jack arrived at Kingfisher Lodge. The resort manager, Kurt Jensen, showed him his cabin, and gave him a tour of the property. Jack was beginning his new job as a fishing guide. Kurt explained that he "would guide one fisher per day, or a couple, no more" (4). Jack’s first client would be Alison K. She was famous, and did not want to provide her last name. Kurt explained other ground rules, explaining that the protocol had been instituted by the owner, Mr. Den. One of the rules was that the workers and guests could not cross the property lines, lest they be shot by the neighbor, Kreutzer.
