Summary

In Chapter 9, Alex studied the property as they pulled in. There was a big house and a smaller pool house. Jack said the property belonged to his ex-girlfriend’s family (216). He talked about her parents, but not about her. The family was away for the summer, as the place was being renovated. The renovations had been stopped because of problems with the town.

The pool house door was not unlocked as it usually was. However, Alex quickly found the hidden key. She found no medications in the bathroom. She saw a text from Dom about coming out. She found Jack lying on the couch, his “pill bottle on the coffee table” (219). She took some herself. While Jack slept, she explored the space, wondering about Jack’s ex. He mumbled in his sleep, asking her to lie with him. They slept on the couch.
