Triumph of the Underdog
A common theme in Grisham’s novels is the triumph of the underdog. The theme explores that common men, like Post and Guardian Ministries, can triumph over those with power and money, like the drug cartels. Post, however, is not the only underdog who triumphs in this novel. Quincy and Duke also triumph in their individual stories as they are acquitted for they did not commit.
Post triumphs over a massively powerful drug cartel as well as the legal system when he is able to get both Duke and Quincy exonerated.
